A DoT funded feasibility study, described here. So that drivers don't have to slow down or brake as they approach traffic signals. Marvellous; that's just what we need. (In slightly less cynical frame of mind, this actually would reduce emissions a bit, because smoother driving uses less fuel. On the other hand, making driving nicer will increase the extent to which people use their cars.)

Large parts of the US don't have the population density for walking or public transportation. If we didn't drive, we'd have to abandon the suburbs, and concentrate in crowded, polluted cities again. We might have less pollution overall, but more pollution where we have people.
ReplyDeleteOops, I didn't see it was the UK DoT. Sorry.
