GPS Tracking of objects

Traakit - not really a travel-oriented solution, but interesting because:

• It's an example of a enterprise-type products and services being made available to consumers on an ASP basis (as OnStar does with fleet management solutions)
• It's also an example of mobile data solutions that are utilitarian and practical rather than entertainment-oriented - a good thing and hopefully a growing trend
• It should help lower the price and understanding barrier for other location-based services, including travel-oriented ones.

This article in The Guardian describes the service and device; perhaps most interesting of all is the fact that it didn't work too well because the device was often unable to pick up the GPS signal.
